Dr Stephan Gruber studied law at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich and received his doctorate at the Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property in 1985.

Dr Stephan Gruber is a partner at CBH in Munich since July 2017. He is active in trademark law and competition law in a forensic and advisory capacity. He specializes in litigious patent and utility model law. He regularly conducts patent infringement and nullity proceedings in all technical fields, with a focus on electronics and electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemistry and medical technology.

Dr Stephan Gruber regularly lectures on national and international patent law. He is member of the “Hall of Fame” at Legal 500 2021/2022 and Patent and Trademark Star 2022 (IP Stars). JUVE Patent lists him as a Leading Individual 2021 („one of the best-known litigators for infringement and nullity suits by Mittelstand companies“; “brilliant mind, he can quote the right Supreme Court ruling for every problem”, competitor). Legal 500 2021/2022 quotes: “Extensive knowledge of all issues of substantive and procedural law. I am still impressed by the fact that he knows the corresponding FCJ decision for every question and that one can rely on the fact that there is nothing if Mr. Gruber does not know it. The “Handelsblatt” lists him as one of “Germany’s best attorneys’ within Intellectual Property Law in 2021. The “Wirtschaftswoche” names him as one of the 20 leading attorneys-at-law for patent litigation in 2021.

CBH’s patent litigation team is being recommended regularly: “well-positioned in patents” (JUVE Patent 2021/2022); “The team of CBH has the client’s best interest in mind when advising on patent litigation. CBH’s attorneys cooperate with the client and the patent attorneys team to find solutions in line with the client’s economic goals”, “CBH’s team is optimally composed. Stephan Gruber is something of a legend in patent litigation and tangibly passes on his experience to his younger colleagues – when working together, I see that the team works excellently.” (Legal500 2021/2022).
